Overview

This activity is designed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of various advanced bronchoscopy techniques and their applications in the management of airway and pleural diseases. Through expert discussions and case-based learning, attendees will gain knowledge on the indications, contraindications, and techniques for procedures such as laser applications, argon plasma coagulation, electrocautery, cryotherapy, and cryobiopsies. Participants will also explore the physiology of central airway obstruction, the role of advanced diagnostic tools like TBNA, EBUS, and pleural interventions, as well as the updated lung cancer staging guidelines. By the end of this activity, participants will be better equipped to manage both benign and malignant airway diseases, perform advanced bronchoscopic procedures, and enhance their understanding of lung cancer diagnosis and staging.

Objectives

Following the activity, attendees should be able to:

  1. Identify the indications and contraindications and proper technique of applications of the above procedures.
  2. Discuss the basic principles of laser application, argon plasma coagulation, electrocautery and cryotherapy and cryobiopsies.
  3. Describe the physiology of central airway obstruction and how it can be modified by various endoscopic therapies and airway stenting.
  4. Management of both benign and malignant airway diseases.
  5. Define the role of TBNA, EBUS, and other modalities of advanced bronchoscopy in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer.
  6. Describe the pleural anatomy and the indications and contraindications of medical thoracoscopy and indwelling pleural catheters in benign and malignant pleural disease.
  7. Explain the indications and technique of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy
  8. Define management strategy for hemoptysis
  9. Understand the updated lung cancer staging guidelines and risk stratification of the lung nodule
  10. Understand the role of rigid bronchoscopy.
  11. Identify cytology and molecular markers for lung cancer.
  12. Identify the aspects of navigation bronchoscopy and minimally invasive robotic bronchoscopic navigation as well as comprehensive management of lung nodules. Additionally:
